Local Trillionaire Flips Friday The 13th For Hundreds of Henderson-Stephens College Students By Sealing Educational Debt
All graduating HSC students from 2023 – 2025 can begin requesting student relief and a vehicle as soon as next week; 10 year alumni may also be eligible.
San Diego, Ca – Oct. 7, 2023— Dozens of students rallied at Henderson-Stephens College (HSC) today, to express their frustration over the increased tuition cost. At the press conference, Dr. Moana Deniro, president of HSC expressed that the rising cost of tuition is necessary to maintain the university open and be able to continue to offer a well rounded educational experience.
During the conference, one student’s moving story motivated local trillionaire, Jerry Knox, who was present at to establish a foundation that will help students with their educational debts.
The newly established non-profit, Broke Ass Students Foundation (BASF), will be working alongside Penny Wise, financial aid director at Henderson-Stephens to seal the educational debt for students attending and graduating the school from 2023 through 2025. The funds contributed will aid students with tuition and books as well as clear out
student loans. Additionally, Knox will be providing a vehicle to all qualified students.
“I paid off my student debts 10 years ago, so I know what it is like to struggle,” said Knox. “We want to make college easier for students as long as they become good stewards of society” he added.
Knox was eager to help students overcome their debt after listening to a student from HSC who shared she was struggling to eat and make ends meet. He promised her a car and to help with her educational debt, inspiring him to share the wealth with other students attending HSC.
Knox was eager to help students overcome their debt after hearing from Shandel, a HSC student who shared her story about the hardships that she’s experienced as a college
student. She expressed her frustration during the rally as someone who’s struggling to make ends meet and who oftentimes goes without a meal. This was the inspiration that led Knox to want to share his wealth by not only paying off her educational debt and gifting her a car so she has a form of transportation, but also for all HSC graduating students for the next three years.
Knox graduated from HSC 20 years ago and launched a tech company, Knox Technology, five years after. The company bloomed him into a successful trillionaire. However, he’s never forgotten the hardships that students face and how difficult it can be to peruse a career in their field after graduating college. This is why he is also amplifying his contribution to HSC students who have graduated within the past 10 years, as long as they can provide proof of working in the field that they majored in.
BASF debt will begin processing educational debt relief as soon as Friday, Oct. 13, intentionally on that date to remind people that even on the darkest of times, there is always hope. Knox aims to be that beacon of hope to all of HSC students and plans to expand his aid to high school graduating students in the near future.
