5% Increase in Tuition

Debt is here!

By Alexa Lima

Tensions rose during the press conference at Henderson Steven College. Where students protested against the 5% increase of tuition.

Moana Deniro, President of HSC, held a press conference regarding the 5% tuition increase they would implement for this school year. Accordingly, the college should have increased tuition to 20% in order to be where they would want to be.

They will slowly increase tuition if they do not see inflation decreasing.

This 5% increase will help keep HSC stay open for this school year.

“We have the same economic fear as students,” she said, “but the rising cost of education will lead to financial sacrifice.”

Shandel Grants, third year student at HSC, spoke passionately against the increase. She said she has to ration financially between school supplies and personal necessities.

“We the students are paying your salaries. We are paying for those Teslas. We are paying for those Range Rovers.” She said “You are supposed to be feeding into the next generation and the next generation can’t even eat? ”.

Moved by Shandel’s speech, Jerry Knox, tech trillionaire, said he would whip out the debt for the entire class of 2023, 2024 and 2025. To help students continue their education.

The only requirement to receive this financial aid will be to finish school and get their degree. If they drop out they will lose their scholarships.

Knox also said he would create a foundation called Broke Ass Students. To help students nationwide who are financially struggling in college.

He said he will meet with people he knows in Washington D.C. to see how they can move forward. Implementing financial help for students that have debt.

“I relate to the students, I grew up poor because I used to work 3 to 4 jobs when I was in college,” he said.“ I believe if you have the money, you should share it.”

20- 30 years after graduating college people are still struggling to pay off their student loans. To pay off their mortgages. To support their daily life expenses.

Student debt is not just a student problem, it is a national problem.
